Hanes Partners with Covenant House to Donate Thousands of Pairs of Socks Through Its National Sock Drive

Chicago, IL (Dec. 10, 2018) - This year, Hanes has partnered with Covenant House Illinois (CHIL) to donate thousands of pairs of socks to our youth through the brand’s National Stock Drive. As winter weather approaches, these socks could not have been donated at a more vital time. As the recipient of the donation, we are incredibly grateful for this generous gift.

CHIL provides comprehensive services to young people experiencing homelessness in Chicago, and across Illinois. Our agency offers vulnerable youth a bridge from homelessness to hope, providing them access to a wide array of essential services such as safe shelter, medical and mental health care, and educational and vocational assistance.

Cheryl Hamilton-Hill, CHIL’s CEO, highlighted the importance of this donation:

"Covenant House Illinois cannot thank the Hanes Company enough for their support of our youth through their amazing Sock Drive.  Can you imagine being without socks in the middle of winter? I cannot!  Our youth are very happy that they now have clean, new socks, that can be used to keep them warm and dry throughout the day at school, work and while job seeking. This sock drive by Hanes could not have been more timely."

“We are Hanes is thrilled to partner with Covenant House again this year and incredibly proud to support the organization’s critical mission of supporting and housing America’s youth who need it most,” said Jamie Wallis, senior manager of marketing for Hanes. “Most of us take new socks and underwear for granted, but we know they bring great comfort to - and can make a dramatic difference in - the lives of those experiencing homelessness. Access to something as basic as clean, dry socks can literally save lives within our country’s homeless population.”

As a national partner of the sock drive, Hanes is offering its audience the opportunity to donate basic apparel (socks, underwear and bras) to all of those who are experiencing the detrimental, often traumatic, effects of homelessness. Your donation can be made through their the Hanes website (www.hanes.com/sockdrive).
