More than 9,000 Chicago Youth are Seeking Shelter this Holiday Season
Covenant House Illinois offers young people (ages 18-24) experiencing homelessness an affirming community, absolute respect, and a path to lasting independence.
By providing them with food, shelter, and critical support, we aim to make their holidays brighter and help them forge their own path toward sustainability.
The risks to homeless youth are especially high at this time of year, due to age-related mental health, rampant discrimination against LGBTQ+ people, and human trafficking. Your support makes it possible to meet the basic needs of even more young adults in Chicago, help them realize their potential, and strengthen our community.
Meet Some of the Incredible Youth We’ve Served!
Marcus
At 21-years-old, Marcus was forced to leave home due to a difficult family situation. He found himself without a safe place to sleep, but found CHIL and a warm bed. Marcus received case management services, attended group sessions, and developed a plan to accomplish his goals. Today, Marcus is a happy tenant in his own studio apartment and works at The Night Ministry as a Peer Outreach Professional.
Ivory
Ivory was forced to navigate the harsh realities of life without a stable home, seeking refuge in various shelters across Chicago. After discovering CHIL, she dove into our career services and successfully applied for a position with the Chicago Transit Authority. Five months later, Ivory found stable employment and used her first paycheck to make a down payment on an apartment with the help of CHIL.
Sonmontez
Fleeing violence that took his sister at a young age, Sonmontez left his hometown to find a better life. He arrived in Chicago without a network of support, but found a community he could depend on at CHIL. We helped Sonmontez successfully navigate his career and personal goals. Now he has a job, clear education goals, and a warm place to stay this holiday.
