Over eight days, the Chicago Urban League brought its expertise to Covenant House Illinois, leading workshops tailored to employment and workforce development. From career mapping to mastering the art of selling oneself, these sessions were designed to impart crucial skills and insights.

The workshops covered a wide array of topics, including "think like an employer," "know your rights," and "suited for success." But perhaps most importantly, they provided a space for youth to learn, grow, and envision a brighter future for themselves.

Miss Tish, Career Development Specialist at Chicago Urban League, shared an inspiring message to youth during the graduation ceremony: "Never allow your circumstances to dictate your future. I've raised myself since I was 14 years old, and now I'm here standing in front of you as a motivational speaker. Remember to keep putting one foot in front of the other and use your trauma as fuel to excel."

Mads Campbell, Education and Employment Specialist at Covenant House Illinois, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the transformative potential of partnerships like the one forged with the Chicago Urban League. "Our youth are the future CEOs and leaders, and that makes me incredibly excited for them. We know that it takes a village to raise a young person, and partnerships like the one we have with the Chicago Urban League are creating the next generation of successful people."

Throughout the workshops, participants engaged in hands-on activities aimed at building essential skills for professional success. From learning how to tie a tie or walk in heels to refining resumes and practicing mock interviews, each session was carefully crafted to empower youth with practical knowledge and confidence.

The culmination of these efforts was a "graduation" ceremony, where 14 CHIL youth who had attended all eight sessions were celebrated for their dedication and commitment to personal growth. It was a moment of pride and accomplishment, both for the participants and for the organizations that had come together to support them on their journey.

As young people continue to navigate the challenge of experiencing homelessness, organizations like CHIL and CUL will be there to guide them. By investing in their potential and providing them with the tools they need to succeed, we not only empower individuals but also strengthen the fabric of our communities.
